Ingredients
Shortbread Crust:
– ½ cup salted butter, softened
– ½ tsp vanilla extract
– 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
– 2 tbsp granulated sugar
– 2 tbsp light brown sugar
– ¼ tsp salt
Apple Filling:
– 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
– 4 tbsp light brown sugar
– 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
– ½ tsp ground cinnamon
– ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Crisp Topping:
– ¾ cup all-purpose flour
– 6 tbsp butter, cubed
– ½ cup light brown sugar
– ¼ cup rolled oats
– ½ tsp salt
– 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions
1. Prepare the crust: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy (2-3 minutes). Mix in vanilla, then fold in flour and salt until crumbly. Press the dough into the pan and bake for 12-14 minutes.
3. Make the apple filling:Toss sliced apples with flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread the apple mixture over the baked shortbread crust.
4. Create the topping: Combine all topping ingredients in a bowl and cut in the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
5. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden. Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
